7 Days of Prayer

for Kerr County

Self-Paced Prayer Guide

Together We are Better

As we approach the commemoration date of the devastating flooding last year, we face a difficult and heavy season for our community.  We hope you will join us in 7 Days of Prayer for Kerr County +, as we pray with one another, and for one another.

"Give all your worries and cares to God,

for He cares about you."

1 Peter 5:7

We will kick off the week with a Prayer at the Park event on Sunday, June 28, 6:00 pm at Louise Hays Park.  All are invited.  Bring your own chair and hydration.

A comprehensive list of Commemoration Events for our community is available at https://kerrtogether.com/commemoration-events/

Day 1

Monday, June 29, 2026

Theme: Lament

Bible Verse: Psalm 34:18
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Song Suggestion:

Reason to Sing, by All Sons and Daughters

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsLhN-RtSTE

Prayer Thought:
This has been a difficult year for our community and people affected by the tragedy.

Amid the pain and suffering, we cry out to God for His strength and power.

Wellness Thought:
One of the most healing things we can do after a traumatic experience is to be honest about heartbreak and loss.  Grief does not need to be hidden, minimized, or justified.  Healing often begins not when pain disappears, but when we feel safe enough to acknowledge it.

Day 2

Tuesday, June 30, 2026

Theme: Grief

Bible Verse: Matthew 5:4

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Song Suggestion:

Just As Good, by Chris Renzema

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oudl2LVXDYo

Prayer Thought:
The loss and pain are real. Grief is a difficult process to navigate.  We pray for those walking through this challenging time.

Wellness Thought:

Grief is not weakness; it is not something that needs to be fixed.  Grief matters because love matters.  Mourning is not a problem to be solved, but a natural response to loss.  We all deal with grief differently.  People often worry that they are grieving incorrectly or that they should be further along than they are – your experience is your experience.  Your journey of grief is not evidence that something is wrong, it is evidence that something meaningful existed.

Day 3

Wednesday, July 1, 2026

Theme: Unity

Bible Verse: Ephesians 4:3

“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

Song Suggestion:

Great Are You Lord, by All Sons and Daughters

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQLMnPYoR9k

Prayer Thought:

Grief and pain can cause division; however, we need one another.  We pray for our neighbors and leaders for unity and peace.

Wellness Thought:

Healing is rarely an individual process.  Communities recover together.  Trauma often affects relationships.  Stress, grief, exhaustion, and differing experiences can create tension even among people who care deeply for one another.  Unity does not require agreement on everything.  It requires the intentional choice of working for relationships and connection.  We need one another!

Day 4

Thursday, July 2, 2026

Theme: Gratitude

Bible Verse: Psalm 107:1

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”

Song Suggestion:

Gratitude, by Brandon Lake

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoHrBNTfzIs

Prayer Thought:

We have suffered much, but we have received much as well.  The generosity of people from all over in financial support, service, prayer, and other means of support is a great blessing for which we are extremely thankful.

Wellness Thought:

Gratitude and suffering can exist together – they are not opposites.  In fact, many people experience both at the same time.  We can mourn what was lost while also recognizing the love, generosity, and compassion that emerged in response.

Day 5

Friday, July 3, 2026

Theme: Unexpected Storms

Bible Verse: Psalm 46:1

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in times of trouble.”

Song Suggestion:

It Is Well, by Kristene DiMarco

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Wb_WD1emFQ

Prayer Thought:

A year ago, no one knew the unthinkable events that night would bring.  Tragedy comes out of nowhere; yet our God is ever present and ever working for our good.

Wellness Thought:

One of the lasting impacts of trauma is that it can change our sense of safety and predictability.  Recovery often involves slowly rebuilding trust – in ourselves, in others, and in the future.  Presence and connection are often more healing than answers.  You do not have to carry your uncertainty alone.

Day 6

Saturday, July 4, 2026

 Theme: Families and First Responders

Bible Verse: Galatians 6:2

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

Song Suggestion:

On This Side of Heaven, by Bristol House

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHTcsyQMWQ4

Prayer Thought:

The overwhelming cost of loss of life and wellbeing to people directly affected by the flooding and the aftermath is tremendous.  We pray for those who have lost so much.

Wellness Thought:

Carrying the burden of our neighbors is our responsibility and privilege.  Out of the carnage of last year, we have seen the best of humanity emerge.  Neighbors helping neighbors… first responders, families, volunteers, faith communities, and countless others carrying burdens together.  Healing can begin in service and support of others.

Day 7

Sunday, July 5, 2026

Theme: Health and Healing In the Future

Bible Verse: Jeremiah 30:17

“I will restore health to you and heal your wounds.”

Song Suggestion:

God, Turn It Around, by Jon Reddick

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7-IAFogxcM

Prayer Thought:

Our loss and pain are not the end of the story.  Through empathy, unity, cooperation, and service, there is a hopeful future.  We are not alone; thanks be to God!

Wellness Thought:

Pain and loss were the way this story started, but it is not the end of the story.  Amid our grieving and our continuing acknowledgement of pain, there is room for healing and hope.  Healing does not mean forgetting.  It does not mean returning to who we were before.  More often, healing involves learning how to carry both loss and hope as we continue moving forward.  Hope is healing.
