Holy Week is an important time of year for Christians. It gives us the opportunity to intentionally lean into the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and give Him our praise, thanksgiving, and honor. While, we hope to do that everyday of our lives, this season, matched with the season of spring, speaks of new life, new growth, and new hope.
The sun is peeking out this morning... after days of rain and clouds, it is so refreshing to be surrounded by light! There is just a way in which the sun brings joy and happiness into our lives. In the same way, THE LIGHT, THE SON, Jesus Christ, brings refreshment and joy into our lives. He is the source of hope and joy. Even in the darkest of times, when the clouds have been hovering over us, His Light, comes with power and assurance... "I am with you." Let the Light of the World shine on you today!
Over and over again, Jesus surprised people. His power, His teaching, His grace, His forgiveness. Love is a surprising thing. True love is surprising in its ability to change people, situations, even principles and nature itself. As we continue on our journey of Holy Week. I encourage you to allow yourself to be surprised by Jesus. For myself, I am surprised by His patience. I am surprised at His never-ending grace. Most of all, I am overwhelmed, humbled, shocked, and amazed that Jesus was willing to suffer and die for my sins!
Jesus Christ literally changed the future and the hope of all people with His willingness to go to the cross for us. The cross... an instrument of torture, used by God for the redemption of all humanity and the offer of hope for the world. "You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people." (Genesis 50:20)
How we hate waiting. We live in a world of instant gratification... overnight delivery, instapots, microwaves, smart phones, online ordering, live-streaming. But maybe, just maybe, there is value in the waiting. Between what we desire and the fulfillment of that hope lies faith. Faith that God is with us, that even though the night seems long, joy comes in the morning.
